SUMMARY:Designing for Hybrid Learning: Expression and Communication
DESCRIPTION:Learners are more likely to take academic risks when they see varied models of success and know there are many paths they can take to demonstrate their skill. Use this session to design unique ways for learners to communicate learning and express their abilities. \nHosted in partnership with CAST and the CA Department of Education

SUMMARY:Theories of Action as a Tool for Developing and Implementing Balanced Assessment Systems
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, we introduce theories of action as a tool for helping district and school leaders identify the problems/issues they are trying to address through the design and implementation of assessment systems. Further\, theories of action provide a comprehensive framework for analysis\, evaluation\, and continuous improvement. In addition to helping participants understand the usefulness of theories of action\, we share several practical tools to help participants begin to develop theories of action for balanced systems of assessment. \nFacilitated by Scott Marion\, Ph.D.\, Executive Director\, Center for Assessment

SUMMARY:Root Cause Analysis: Investigating Problems In Our School Systems
DESCRIPTION:California’s special education monitoring processes are shifting from a compliance focus to a continuous improvement approach. Local Education Agencies (LEAs) identified for monitoring are now required to develop an annual Special Education Plan (SEP). Now more than ever\, LEAs have the opportunity to leverage monitoring processes and the development of the SEP to reveal inequities in their systems and affect real and sustainable improvement. Given the complexities of our school systems\, identifying the root causes of systemic inequities can be challenging. To promote meaningful improvement that proves to be sustainable over time\, leadership teams must engage in deep\, thoughtful\, and multi-faceted root cause analysis. This approach to root cause analysis provides key information that will empower school teams to develop improvement plans resulting in better outcomes for students with disabilities. \nIn this three-part training series\, participants will: \n\nDiscuss key system thinking concepts\, with an emphasis on identifying and managing our mental models.\nExplore three components of a thorough root cause analysis: data analysis\, accessing user perspective\, and process mapping.\nCreate a root cause analysis investigation plan to inform the development of the Special Education Plan (SEP) and/or other improvement efforts.\n\nFor a more comprehensive learning experience\, please join all three sessions in this series: \n\nSession 1 – Monday\, May 10 from 9:00am-12:00pm\nSession 2 – Monday\, May 17 from 9:00am-12:00pm\nSession 3 – Monday\, May 24 from 9:00am-12:00pm\n\nWant to share this with your network? SUMMARY:#CaliforniansForALL College Corps: K-12 Education Tutoring
DESCRIPTION:California launched #CaliforniansForALL College Corps\, the first of its kind initiative\, to provide thousands of hours of service to address critical issues in K-12 education. The College Corps service program led by California Volunteers\, Office of the Governor\, provides college students with the opportunity to become College Corps Fellows and serve for an academic year.  \nCSU Fresno\, through the Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning\, is a recipient of the #CaliforniansForALL College Corps grant and anticipates this funding will support approximately 70 Fresno State Students and 50 Fresno City College students to provide as much as 54\,000 hours of service to the community. In partnership with community-based organizations and local educational agencies (e.g.\, Fresno County Office of Education)\, the Fresno College Corps Fellows hold the potential to make a significant impact in mentoring and tutoring K-12 students.   \nThis session provides an overview of evidence-based practices for designing\, implementing\, and evaluating high-impact tutoring programs. As the California Colleges and Universities selected to support the College Corps are engaging in Planning and Program Development until July 2022 to launch the Service Year in August 2022\, it is imperative that grant recipients provide the training and implementation strategies to maximize the impact of tutoring on student learning outcomes. \nThis webinar\, co-hosted by California Volunteers\, the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence\, State Board of Education\, and California Department of Education is the second in a series of sessions that will support institutes of higher education\, local educational agencies\, and community-based organizations with implementing supplemental instructional programs and support services. \nClick here to register for this webinar!

SUMMARY:Open Door Session: Merced COE
DESCRIPTION:What does it take to improve the quality of mathematics instruction on a large scale? Merced COE has addressed this question by creating a Comprehensive Improvement Plan weaving together 5 key components: ambitious instruction\, job-embedded coaching\, PLC support\, building capacity of leaders\, and improvement science. Their mathematical philosophy embeds a whole child approach\, considering and prioritizing the full scope of child development – social\, emotional\, cognitive and academic\, as well as physical and mental health. This approach understands that in order to reach their full potential\, students need access to safe and welcoming learning environments and rich learning experiences. This webinar is targeted towards county office of education staff who aspire to improve mathematics instruction in their counties or regions. \nThis event has passed.
