SUMMARY:Root Cause Analysis: Investigating Problems In Our School Systems
DESCRIPTION:California’s special education monitoring processes are shifting from a compliance focus to a continuous improvement approach. Local Education Agencies (LEAs) identified for monitoring are now required to develop an annual Special Education Plan (SEP). Now more than ever\, LEAs have the opportunity to leverage monitoring processes and the development of the SEP to reveal inequities in their systems and affect real and sustainable improvement. Given the complexities of our school systems\, identifying the root causes of systemic inequities can be challenging. To promote meaningful improvement that proves to be sustainable over time\, leadership teams must engage in deep\, thoughtful\, and multi-faceted root cause analysis. This approach to root cause analysis provides key information that will empower school teams to develop improvement plans resulting in better outcomes for students with disabilities. \nIn this three-part training series\, participants will: \n\nDiscuss key system thinking concepts\, with an emphasis on identifying and managing our mental models.\nExplore three components of a thorough root cause analysis: data analysis\, accessing user perspective\, and process mapping.\nCreate a root cause analysis investigation plan to inform the development of the Special Education Plan (SEP) and/or other improvement efforts.\n\nFor a more comprehensive learning experience\, please join all three sessions in this series: \n\nSession 1 – Monday\, May 10 from 9:00am-12:00pm\nSession 2 – Monday\, May 17 from 9:00am-12:00pm\nSession 3 – Monday\, May 24 from 9:00am-12:00pm\n\nWant to share this with your network?
SUMMARY:Developing Learning Continuity and Attendance Plans that Embrace our English Learners: A Focus on Community & Family Engagement
DESCRIPTION:The Community Engagement Initiative Presents: \n  \nDeveloping Learning Continuity and Attendance Plans that Embrace our English Learners:  A Focus on Community & Family Engagement \n  \nBy September 30\, districts are responsible for gaining stakeholder input and developing a Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan (LCP) for the 2020-21 school year that addresses the needs of all pupils regarding the impacts of COVID-19\, with specific attention to English Learners and increasing or improving EL services. What might a powerful LCP look like for English Learners\, that heeds research and builds upon learning from experiences with distance learning last spring and creates deeper partnerships with families? What should educators and communities be thinking about and considering in planning to ensure English Learners are able to recoup learning loss and are not left further behind? \n  \nCalifornians Together staff will present the findings and recommendations from a review of COVID-19 Operations Written Reports. Dr. Laurie Olson will present and share a planning tool to align the LCP with the English Learner Roadmap\, emphasizing the opportunities for parent engagement. \n  \nCome and learn about the Community Engagement Initiative and how to join Cohort II of our Peer Leading and Learning Networks. Attendees will also learn how to tap into resources and tools developed by Californians Together to support LEAs in developing more inclusive Learning Continuity and Attendance Plans. \n  \nPresenters: \nXilonin Cruz-Gonzalez\, Californians Together\, Deputy Director\nManuel Buenrostro\, Californians Together\, Policy Associate\nLaurie Olsen\, EL RISE!\, Director of Design \n
