SUMMARY:Educational Impact in Early Childhood: Connecting Assessment to Eligibility
DESCRIPTION:Join the California Early Childhood Special Education (CalECSE) Network for this no-cost virtual training focused on Determining Educational Impact in Early Childhood Special Education. \nDetermining educational impact is a critical component of the special education eligibility process for young children\, yet it can often be one of the most nuanced and challenging areas for multidisciplinary teams to navigate. This session will explore how teams can thoughtfully determine whether a child’s disability affects their access\, participation\, engagement\, and progress within early learning environments. \nParticipants will examine educational impact through an early childhood lens\, including the role of developmentally appropriate expectations\, functional participation\, social-emotional development\, communication\, play\, adaptive skills\, and access to routines and instruction across settings. This training will also highlight the importance of gathering meaningful data from observations\, family input\, classroom performance\, and authentic assessment practices to support legally defensible and child-centered eligibility decisions. \nRegistration link \nPlease note: The California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE) is not responsible for organizing\, managing\, or overseeing this event. SUMMARY:Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Early Childhood: From Diagnosis to Educational Impact—Understanding Other Health Impairment (OHI) Eligibility in Special Education
DESCRIPTION:Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions affecting young children\, yet questions often arise regarding how a clinical diagnosis translates into educational need and eligibility for special education services. This session will bridge the gap between clinical understanding and educational practice by examining ADHD through both medical and educational lenses. \nDr. Catrina Calub from UC Davis’s Mind Institute will provide an overview of the etiology\, neurobiology\, diagnostic criteria\, prevalence\, and evidence-based approaches to identifying ADHD in young children. Participants will explore current research related to early childhood ADHD\, common co-occurring conditions\, developmental considerations\, and the importance of early identification and intervention. \nRegistration link \nPlease note: The California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE) is not responsible for organizing\, managing\, or overseeing this event. For questions or additional information\, please reach out to the event organizers directly.
