SUMMARY:Theories of Action as a Tool for Developing and Implementing Balanced Assessment Systems
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, we introduce theories of action as a tool for helping district and school leaders identify the problems/issues they are trying to address through the design and implementation of assessment systems. Further\, theories of action provide a comprehensive framework for analysis\, evaluation\, and continuous improvement. In addition to helping participants understand the usefulness of theories of action\, we share several practical tools to help participants begin to develop theories of action for balanced systems of assessment. \nFacilitated by Scott Marion\, Ph.D.\, Executive Director\, Center for Assessment

SUMMARY:Root Cause Analysis: Investigating Problems In Our School Systems
DESCRIPTION:California’s special education monitoring processes are shifting from a compliance focus to a continuous improvement approach. Local Education Agencies (LEAs) identified for monitoring are now required to develop an annual Special Education Plan (SEP). Now more than ever\, LEAs have the opportunity to leverage monitoring processes and the development of the SEP to reveal inequities in their systems and affect real and sustainable improvement. Given the complexities of our school systems\, identifying the root causes of systemic inequities can be challenging. To promote meaningful improvement that proves to be sustainable over time\, leadership teams must engage in deep\, thoughtful\, and multi-faceted root cause analysis. This approach to root cause analysis provides key information that will empower school teams to develop improvement plans resulting in better outcomes for students with disabilities. \nIn this three-part training series\, participants will: \n\nDiscuss key system thinking concepts\, with an emphasis on identifying and managing our mental models.\nExplore three components of a thorough root cause analysis: data analysis\, accessing user perspective\, and process mapping.\nCreate a root cause analysis investigation plan to inform the development of the Special Education Plan (SEP) and/or other improvement efforts.\n\nFor a more comprehensive learning experience\, please join all three sessions in this series: \n\nSession 1 – Monday\, May 10 from 9:00am-12:00pm\nSession 2 – Monday\, May 17 from 9:00am-12:00pm\nSession 3 – Monday\, May 24 from 9:00am-12:00pm\n\nWant to share this with your network? SUMMARY:Open Office Hours - AB 86 Survey & P-EBT Survey
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Administration\, the California Department of Social Services\, the State Board of Education (SBE)\, and the California Department of Education (CDE)\, CCEE will be hosting office hours to support school districts and charter schools with the upcoming May 24 data collection\, which will reflect two changes: \nOngoing AB 86 Survey (School Instructional Modes): Beginning with the May 24 data collection window\, the survey will pause on collecting information related to reopening schools at the school level (we expect this data will be required again starting with the new 21-22 school year in August) and shift to collecting student enrollment counts for various summer programs offered by LEAs\, charters\, and private schools. \nPandemic EBT Survey (for NSLP & SBP Schools): Pandemic EBT or P-EBT provides additional food benefits to school age children (TK to 22 years) eligible for free or reduced-price school meals who may not have received ready access to those meals due to COVID-19 related changes in school instructional mode. There will be a one-time collection of data at the district and charter school level to report on their primary mode of instruction by month across the 2020-21 school year.
