DESCRIPTION
Developed in partnership with the National Board Resource Center at Stanford University and the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education (SCOPE), this six module, asynchronous course is designed specifically for teachers to help support all learners in a virtual learning space. It draws from the research base that informs the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and its definition of accomplished teaching. These standards describe accomplished teaching and have been designed to apply to any setting, including hybrid and virtual contexts. By grounding our asynchronous course in these nationally-recognized standards, we seek to empower teachers to navigate this new world of virtual and hybrid teaching and learning grounded in principles that can guide their decision making and leverage the practices they have built for in-person classrooms. Although these principles could be extended to all grades, our course is most targeted for teachers in grades 6-12 who teach core subject areas.
This course is broken into six modules:
- Module 1: Knowledge of Students
- Module 2: Building a Positive Classroom Environment Online
- Module 3: Student Engagement Practices in a Virtual Learning Environment
- Module 4: Formative Assessment with an Asset Lens
- Module 5: Differentiation and Supporting Learning Differences Online
- Module 6: Rethinking Assessments
