Digitized Student Centered IEP Template
Overview
California has developed a new statewide Individualized Education Program (IEP) template designed to support a more asset-based, student-centered approach to IEP development and meetings. The California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE) convened a multiyear collaborative process with state agencies and education leaders across California to develop the template and create a statewide digital version to support implementation.
Building on this work, CCEE engaged organizations across California’s Statewide System of Support, including the High Quality IEP Initiative, to provide professional learning and implementation support focused on student strengths, student voice, meaningful family engagement, ambitious goals, and expanded opportunities for students in school and beyond.
The statewide IEP template is available for use by local educational agencies (LEAs), charter schools, county offices of education (COEs), and Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs) to support high-quality, student-centered IEP development and implementation. Use of the template is optional. Translated versions in 10 of California’s most commonly spoken languages will be available beginning January 1, 2027, further supporting accessibility for educators, students, and families.
