There is an abundance of empirical research to indicate it is best practice to intervene before problematic behaviors occur. The application of universal interventions (primary prevention) can lead to a reduction in office discipline referrals, reduction in suspensions, referrals for special education, and improved academic performance. Universal supports and instruction are the core supports and strategies provided to all students within the school to promote successful student outcomes and prevent school failure.

Increasing Communication in the Classroom: Functional Communication Training and Augmentative & Alternative Communication
Communication skills are fundamental to a student’s success in their educational program. When students have challenges communicating effectively, teams often seek alternatives. Functional Communication Training (FCT) includes practices that can help a student replace challenging behavior that has communication function with communication behaviors that are more effective. Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) tools and techniques include those that are not verbal/vocal which may be useful to students as they learn to communicate effectively.
Consequences That Work!: Differential Reinforcement, Extinction, Behavioral Momentum, & Response Interruption and Redirection
This workshop will focus on advanced consequences and will teach participants how to: Provide reinforcement when students demonstrate behaviors other than the problem behavior, Eliminate reinforcement for problem behaviors, Use behavioral momentum to increase appropriate behaviors, Interrupt problem behaviors and successfully redirect students
