Accelerating Instruction for Learning Recovery

Join CCCOE in welcoming Dr. Nicki Newton to discuss what high-quality instruction looks like through the use of learning acceleration. Acceleration is about equity, which allows ALL students to access an engaging, standards-based, academically rigorous, grade-level curriculum.
This session is for all grade levels and content areas.
Outcomes:
- Understand the research behind learning acceleration and how it helps all students achieve at high levels.
- Experience learning acceleration and how it impacts intervention.
- Engage in how to plan for learning acceleration.
- Envision next steps in learning acceleration with your own students.
Dr. Nicki Newton is an education consultant who works with schools and districts around the country and Canada on K-8 math curriculum. She has taught elementary school, middle school, and graduate school. Dr Nicki has an Ed.M. and an Ed.D from the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University specializing in Teacher Education and Curriculum Development. She is greatly interested in teaching and learning practices around the world and has researched education in Denmark, Guatemala, and India. She has written over 45 books and is excited to be part of the team of writers for the McGraw-Hill new series, Reveal Math. Her latest books are, Accelerating k-8 Math Instruction (Teacher’s College Press) and also A Teacher’s Guide to Math Workshop (Newton, Mello & Nuzzie; Heinemann). She is currently working on a book about High Dosage Tutoring. She is an avid pinner, blogger, and tweeter.
Participants will receive a $200 stipend (participating Contra Costa districts ONLY) and a copy of Accelerating K-8 Math book. Lunch and light snacks will be provided.
