Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Early Childhood: From Diagnosis to Educational Impact—Understanding Other Health Impairment (OHI) Eligibility in Special Education

April 27, 2027 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions affecting young children, yet questions often arise regarding how a clinical diagnosis translates into educational need and eligibility for special education services. This session will bridge the gap between clinical understanding and educational practice by examining ADHD through both medical and educational lenses.

Dr. Catrina Calub from UC Davis’s Mind Institute will provide an overview of the etiology, neurobiology, diagnostic criteria, prevalence, and evidence-based approaches to identifying ADHD in young children. Participants will explore current research related to early childhood ADHD, common co-occurring conditions, developmental considerations, and the importance of early identification and intervention.
