Understanding Gender Differences in Autism: Implications for Assessment and Identification
December 3 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Drawing on current research, we will explore how autism can present differently in boys and girls, including variations in communication styles, social behaviors, mannerisms, special interests, and play behaviors. Research shows girls are typically diagnosed later than boys and that our current assessment measures are less sensitive to girls with autism than boys. Participants will examine how these differences may influence assessment practices and contribute to under- or misidentification in special education. Strategies for more equitable and accurate evaluation will be discussed, with the goal of improving early identification and support for all children with autism.
