2023-2024 CDI LETRS
The Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) Statewide Community of Practice (CoP) is part of the California Dyslexia Initiative (CDI). We will build common language, knowledge, and expertise around teaching reading/language arts through this Statewide LETRS CoP to ultimately increase reading proficiency for students across California. LETRS professional development is a blended learning series designed to provide educators with the background, depth of knowledge, and tools to teach language and literacy to all students. The course bridges deep, meaningful research into practical classroom success using text, online modules, and training over a two-year period.

Mindfulness with Ms. M
Start the day with a special practice—learning to give attention to the present moment with curiosity, non-judgement, and kindness. This group utilizes a combination of Mindful Schools Curriculum (mindfulschools.org), Mindfulness Techniques developed by Christopher Willard PsyD (drchristopherwillard.com), Action for Happiness’ Kindness Curriculum, and 10 years of clinical practice supporting individuals with integrating mindfulness into everyday life. Group practice will be led by Meade Williams, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. For more information please email: [email protected]
Ethnic Studies Community of Practice
The El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, and Sacramento County Offices of Education are excited to host our regional Ethnic Studies Community of Practice. The purpose of this Community of Practice is to bring together administrators and teachers from high schools in our counties to build their capacity to teach Ethnic Studies. This CoP will: 1. Support districts with information regarding state graduation requirements, model curriculum, and support implementation. 2. Share updates from state & regional California Regional Ethnic Studies Collaborative Project (Project CRESC). 3. Identify and collaborate to address varied district needs. 4. Share and learn from each other. 5. Identify expert partners to support work.
